Pahang becomes the first state in the East Coast to achieve full completion status under EDOTCO’s mandate for Phase 1 of the JENDELA plan
Kuantan, Pahang, 10 January – EDOTCO Malaysia together with its subsidiary Alam Mindspace (formerly known as Touch Mindspace) and Shahzan Alam Muda, today announced the handover of 45 newly constructed communication towers for Phase 1 under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) in Pahang to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). The handover ceremony was attended and officiated by YB Tuan Fadzli Mohamad Kamal, the Pahang State EXCO for Communications, Digital, Youth, Sports & Non-Governmental Organisations, as a symbolic acceptance on behalf of the State Government in its effort to boost 4G coverage, enabling the people of Pahang to enjoy better-quality internet services.
Overall, a total of 191 communication towers under Phase 1 of the JENDELA program have been completed across Pahang, with EDOTCO contributing 24% of the total. Pahang is now among the earliest states to achieve full completion, and these towers have been handed over to the State Government by the infrastructure providers appointed by MCMC.
The completion of Phase 1 of the JENDELA Plan also aligns with the Pahang Digital Plan 2021-2025, which aims to establish a conducive and integrated digital ecosystem connecting the government, citizens, and private sector. This plan promotes a digital lifestyle among the people and enhances Pahang's image as a progressive and digitally prepared state, attracting foreign investors.
YB Tuan Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said, “The State Government has observed a positive improvement in digital connectivity and internet coverage in Pahang, which now reaches 99.33% compared to 89.1% before the implementation of the JENDELA plan in 2020. The State Government, together with MCMC, will continue focusing on the remaining projects under the JENDELA initiative in Pahang that are yet to be fully completed. As of 31 December 2024, there are 144 towers out of the total 191 have been fully operational, while the remaining 47 are targeted to complete by the end of the first quarter of 2025.”
In addition, Fadzli also said that close collaboration among stakeholders, from the government and private sectors—such as the local authorities, Lands and Mines Office, EDOTCO, the State Forestry Department, the Public Works Department (JKR), infrastructure providers like EDOTCO, and mobile network operators—is crucial in ensuring the success of the JENDELA Plan at both the state and national levels.
Besides Pahang, EDOTCO has also completed and fully handed over communication towers built under the JENDELA Plan in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and Kedah. To date, EDOTCO has completed the construction of 230 communication towers nationwide, which is approximately 90% of the total 258 towers under JENDELA Phase 1 mandate. Meanwhile, 27 towers are in the final stages of construction and are expected to be fully completed by the end of January 2025.
En. Adlan Tajudin, Group Chief Executive Officer of EDOTCO said, “As the largest digital infrastructure provider in Malaysia, we are committed to enabling the implementation of JENDELA to support the Government's digital agenda. This commitment is exemplified by the 45 towers we have successfully constructed across the state of Pahang. Through our subsidiary, Alam Mindscape, we remain dedicated in empowering the development of communication infrastructure in Pahang, in line with the aspirations of the State Government.
In addition, as a key stakeholder in Pahang’s telecommunications sector through Shahzan Alam Muda, which serves as a one-stop agency (OSA), we also play an active role in driving the State Government towards more systematic, data-driven approach, to ensure a sustainable and inclusive progress for the people of Pahang."
The JENDELA Plan focuses on efforts to bridge the digital divide in Malaysia, thereby supporting balanced regional development as well as the advancement of new and future communication technologies.
