Following its 10th anniversary, the Group signs a Market Trial Agreement with Telecom Infra Project to enhance product offerings to communities all over Asia-Pacific and the world, commencing the pilot phase with cities in Malaysia.

SINGAPORE, 7 December 2022 – EDOTCO Group (EDOTCO), a leading integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company in Asia, announced a strategic initiative with Telecom Infra Project (TIP) to empower communities across the region through improved connectivity. This initiative will start in Malaysia as part of a series of pilots before making the 5G connection accessible to a broader part of the region in the next three years.

In this initiative, EDOTCO will deploy six pilot in-building solutions with a Neutral Host model and shareable 4G and 5G small cells in identified iconic buildings in Malaysia, such as the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, KL Sentral and Merdeka 118. This effort will provide better indoor coverage for users – in tandem with the increasing requirement to generate more traffic in the next decade. With the deployment of this solution, mobile users will be able to enjoy high speed, low latency and metaverse-ready internet experience.

“At EDOTCO, we always believe in building relationships with organizations with whom our values align, such as to maximise the potential we might have in leading sustainable digital connectivity in Asia,” said Adlan Tajudin, Director and Group CEO, EDOTCO Group. "As we continue to make good on our commitment to connect the unconnected, we could not be more excited to work with, the Telecom Infra Project. We truly believe that together, we can accelerate equitable access to digital connectivity for Malaysians and, eventually, other communities around the world," he added.

Through this initiative, TIP will provide strategic direction and technical know-how to improve global best practices for in-building solutions scalable worldwide. EDOTCO, on the other hand, will own, operate, manage and lease the infrastructure as a Neutral Host Network-As-A-Service (NaaS) model to telecom operators. Upon implementation success, EDOTCO intends to roll out sharable small cells in mass quantities, replicated in other Asian markets within their footprint.

Dave Hutton, Chief Engineer at Telecom Infra Project, said, “At Telecom Infra Project, we are constantly looking for collaborators in building a global community of companies and organizations who are like-minded in our mission to accelerate the development and deployment of open, disaggregated, and standards-based technology solutions that deliver the high-quality connectivity that the world needs – now and in the decades to come. Given EDOTCO's relentless pursuit of maximising connectivity for people all over the region, we are thrilled to imagine the possibilities that will arise from this initiative.”

John Hartin, CEO of TeleworX and Co-Chair of TIP’s Neutral Host NaaS Solutions Group added “this is an ambitious effort to spotlight the economic benefits of the Neutral Host model in multiple scenarios with multiple network architectures while improving best practices along the way. This partnership with EDOTCO will accelerate our efforts to realize the potential of Neutral Host models worldwide. EDOTCO is the right collaborator to advance this mission”.

The collaboration is a testament to EDOTCO's commitment to building more sustainable and equitable connectivity for nations regionally and globally. This comes on the heels of EDOTCO's announcement of an improved strategic approach that emphasizes the Group's mission of becoming Asia's next-generation tower companies (towercos) champion.

Since its inception in 2012, EDOTCO has established a regional portfolio of over 54,000 telecommunications towers across nine countries in South and Southeast Asia. The award-winning company is the first regional and integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company in Asia and was ranked sixth1 amongst the top 100 global telecommunications TowerCos in the world and was named one of three Malaysian unicorns by Credit Suisse2 in 2021. It was also the first telecommunications infrastructure company in Malaysia to be accepted as a UN Global Compact signatory3, which is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.

TIP is an engineering-focused initiative that is bringing operators, infrastructure providers, system integrators, and other technology companies together to accelerate the development and deployment of open, disaggregated, and standards-based technology solutions that deliver the high-quality connectivity that the world needs, now and in the decades to come.
