OUM Ties Up With edotco
Kuala Lumpur, 25 November 2016
Open University Malaysia (OUM) today signed an agreement with edotco Malaysia Sdn Bhd (EMSB) as an initiative towards enhancing high speed internet and 4G LTE connectivity in over 30 OUM campuses throughout Malaysia.
The agreement binds a three-year contract between both parties, paving the way for EMSB to establish efficient and innovative shared telecoms infrastructure that emphasizes skyline harmonization for space constrained areas. The establishment of this infrastructure will enable mobile network operators to rapidly offer high speed internet and 4G LTE connectivity without a major investment.
As an institution that leverages heavily on technology in managing its operations and programme delivery, this collaboration is expected to further improve the process of teaching and learning at OUM. This move is also set to benefit end-users and communities within the area – students, academicians, residents and business owners – towards seamless network connectivity.
OUM views the collaboration as a win-win strategy that benefits both parties. “The University will enjoy seamless network connectivity that will enable learners to access information and learning resources at speed. This collaboration will also allow OUM to reach out to learners in remote areas effectively, and support our aspiration to expand the breadth and scope of our online programmes to attract learners from our international partners,” said Prof Dato’ Dr Mansor Fadzil, President / Vice-Chancellor of OUM.
Managing Director of edotco Malaysia, Wan Zainal Adileen Wan Puteh, said “We are greatly honoured to be the preferred partner in this venture with OUM and play our role towards nurturing an educated and information-rich Malaysians. This partnership affirms our commitment to enabling connectivity in the country; delivering high quality shared telecoms infrastructure for mobile network operators.”
OUM currently has a cumulative enrolment of over 150,000 learners since first opening its doors in 2001. Its programmes are also offered in over 10 countries including Yemen, Bahrain, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Hungary, Ghana, Somalia, Zambia, Bangladesh and Mauritius.
