In 2023, Bangladesh witnessed a significant dengue outbreak, raising major concerns within the health sector. The number of hospitalised patients has surged, reaching a decade-high, as reported by the Directorate General of Health Services of Bangladesh. Due to the outbreak’s severity and escalating fatality rates, the government has declared dengue an epidemic.

While the government has implemented various measures to address the outbreak, the involvement of community participation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives from the private sector is also crucial in supporting the government’s efforts to prevent and control the spread of dengue.

Mosquito nets are an effective defence, providing a physical barrier against mosquitoes and, consequently, reducing the transmission of mosquito-borne diseases, including dengue.

EDOTCO Bangladesh, steadfast in its commitment to community support, has promptly responded to this public health crisis. As part of its Corporate Social Commitment, the team has facilitated the distribution OF mosquito nets to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and Mugda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), two pivotal hospitals in the capital.

The initiative was led by Mr. Sunil Isaac, Country Managing Director of EDOTCO Bangladesh, alongside Mr. Dr. Shorfuddin Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of BBMSU, and Mr. Dr. Niatuzzaman, Director of MMCH.

This effort not only exemplifies EDOTCO’s dedication to communal well-being during times of crisis but also reinforces its pledge to safeguard the communities it serves.
