edotco lights up Myanmar’s tallest ‘Christmas Tree’.

Yangon, 7th December 2017: edotco Myanmar Limited (“edotco Myanmar”) will switch on the Christmas lights on a very special ‘Tree’ in Pun Hlaing Estate on Saturday 9th December. Standing at 30 meters high, this specially constructed camouflage telecom tower ‘tree’ by edotco is undoubtedly Myanmar’s tallest ‘Christmas Tree’. The telecom tower has been seasonally decorated with LED lights and will stand as a festive beacon while the tower company hands out presents to children living in the nearby village.

edotco is the first telecom tower company in the country to install innovative towers that blend with the environment. The camouflage telecom tower “tree”, erected earlier this year is built within Pun Hlaing’s residential complex and is a 30m Monopole Tree Tower (Slipped Type) made up of hot dipped mild steel, coated with fiber glass and painted brown for the main tower body to resemble a tree bark. Artificial branches were added to it to mimic the natural look of a real pine tree and to match the existing aesthetics of the nearby Golf Estate. The tower covers a 20-kilometer radius which includes all residences inside the estate and the surrounding Nyaung Village in the township of Hlangtharyar.

Vijendran (Vijay) Watson, Country Managing Director of edotco Myanmar, said: “edotco is pleased to showcase our camouflage solutions that can be used in a range of environmental settings. Towers need not be viewed as ugly man-made objects and can be adapted to look inconspicuous while providing necessary coverage. Aside from this ‘Christmas tree’ tower we are also designing another tower in Star City to look like a chimney, this allows us to have some fun with our towers while sharing the Christmas spirit at the same time.”

edotco is constantly experimenting with materials and offering innovative solutions to address the challenges of the telecom infrastructure industry. The company also pioneered the use of Asia’s first ground-based carbon fiber tower in Malaysia and recently introduced the use of bamboo as a renewable resource for a tower on a rooftop in Dhaka.

edotco Malaysia Inks 9-Year Agreement with Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia

The recent SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games were the first events to benefit from the advanced technology deployed by edotco Malaysia in KL Sports City

Kuala Lumpur, 13 December 2017 – edotco Malaysia signed an agreement with Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia (PSM) to provide telecommunications infrastructure with multi-tenant capabilities as well as fronthaul and backhaul fibre optic services in all its sports complexes.

The duration of the agreement is slated for nine (9) years and covers all stadiums and venues in KL Sports City, Bukit Kiara National Sports Complex, Jalan Duta National Sports Complex, Setiawangsa Sports Complex, Shah Alam National Sports Complex (Panasonic), Sarawak Excellence Aquatic Centre as well as other future complexes managed by PSM.

edotco Malaysia has already deployed multi-band antennas with 4G LTE capabilities to enlarge network capacity at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in KL Sports City in the run-up to Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017). The antennas allow mobile network operators (MNOs) to cater to the full capacity of the stadium. This is the first of such sites in Malaysia that optimises connectivity via unobtrusive multi-beam technology, and are among the first of its kind in the region.

Meanwhile, in-building cellular enhancement systems (IBC) comprising distributed antenna systems (DAS) ready with multiple input multiple output (MIMO) among others were installed inside the Axiata Arena, formerly known as Putra Stadium, to boost network signal strength. They are mounted on pillars and the ceiling to blend in with the aesthetics of the interior of the arena. edotco Malaysia Chief Country Officer Wan Zainal Adileen remarked, “We are pleased to be selected by Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia to be their infrastructure partner. Venues such as stadiums play host to regular congregations of large crowds, who in turn cause surges in network activity in a concentrated area. Infrastructure capacity plays an important role in ensuring good connectivity and service for customers during periods of sudden demand. The deployment of our latest solutions in KL Sports City gave visitors, local and foreign, a seamless connectivity experience. We look forward to implementing similar innovative solutions in all PSM’s venues to contribute to Malaysia’s bid to make these sports complexes which are designed to host international events, top sporting destinations in the world.”

Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Azman Fahmi bin Osman said, “We are glad to partner edotco Malaysia, an experienced and dedicated telecommunications infrastructure provider in the installation and management of these solutions that will greatly support our aspiration of providing the best experience for fans and athletes alike. The recently concluded KL2017 benefitted greatly from the infrastructure installed by edotco which enabled telco operators to increase their bandwidth without investing into infrastructure. The edotco solutions reduced the anticipated potential bottlenecks during spikes in demand and activity, giving supporters who thronged KL Sports City during KL2017 seamless coverage and good connectivity speed. It also powered the official KL2017 communication channels. We believe this telecommunications infrastructure partnership will better serve and modernise all our sporting venues to provide better experiences for the organisers, media, artists, athletes and fans.”

Currently, PSM has a portfolio of 14 stadiums and venues located in five major sports complexes in Peninsular Malaysia, capable of hosting sporting events ranging from indoors to outdoors as well as aquatic. PSM intends to make these venues part of local communities’ activities all year to optimise utilisation, whilst catering to the needs of the nation.

edotco partners Dawood Hercules to announce its biggest deal to date by acquiring ~13,000 towers in Pakistan to become the 8th largest Independent Tower Company Globally
Kuala Lumpur, Islamabad, 30 August 2017

edotco Group Sdn Bhd (“edotco”), a subsidiary of Axiata Group Berhad (“Axiata”), announced its biggest expansion plan to date with the proposed acquisition of approximately 13,000 towers in Pakistan to solidify its position as one of the largest independent tower companies in the world. edotco is acquiring the towers from Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited (“PMCL”) together with Dawood Hercules Corporation Limited (“DH Corp”), a leading listed investment conglomerate in Pakistan.

With its existing portfolio of over 26,000 towers owned and operated across six countries, the move will effectively place edotco as the eighth largest independent tower company and second largest multi-country tower operator globally[1].

The proposed deal follows edotco’s recent successful acquisition of Tanzanite Tower Private Limited (“Tanzanite”) and its 700 towers. This reflects edotco’s continued expansion strategy as well as its investment commitment to Pakistan as a key growth market and confidence in the prospects of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure market.

edotco, through Tanzanite, now incorporated as a subsidiary of edotco Pakistan Private Limited (“edotco PK”), has entered into an agreement with PMCL to acquire its tower subsidiary, Deodar Private Limited (“Deodar”) and its portfolio of over 13,000 tower assets.

As part of the transaction partnership, DH Corp will be investing a 45% equity stake in edotco PK with the remaining 55% control stake to be held by edotco. DH Corp, listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange, with a market capitalisation of approximately USD600 million[2], is one of the country’s largest conglomerates with a varied business portfolio which includes, fertilizers, foods, chemical storage & handling, trading, energy – including independent power production, renewables and petrochemicals.

The total transaction consideration for the proposed acquisition is USD940 million, which will be funded through a combination of external local debt of USD600 million and an equity split of USD174 million by edotco and USD166 million by DH Corp for their respective stakes.

In meeting with all of edotco’s firm inorganic expansion and merger & acquisition criteria, this proposed acquisition represents a significant expansion of edotco’s operations in Pakistan. At closing, the acquisition will lead to an enhanced portfolio of approximately 40,000 towers being operated and managed by edotco across the region, comprising approximately 32,000 owned and operated with a further 8,000 towers managed through a range of services provided.

Pakistan is noted to be one of the region’s fastest growing telecommunications infrastructure markets. As mobile penetration stands at around 73% and data penetration at around only 24%, Pakistan’s telecommunications industry growth potential remains strong for a population of over 200 million.[3] In addition, its well-regulated telecommunications policies favour and promote infrastructure sharing making it an attractive investment for telecom infrastructure investors.

Upon completion, edotco will reinforce its position as the largest independent tower company in Pakistan with a high-quality asset portfolio and PMCL as its anchor tenant. PMCL is Pakistan’s largest mobile network operator and through its Jazz brand provides a range of telecom services for over 53 million users.

The deal also comes with immediate financial accretion for edotco.

Datuk Azzat Kamaludin, Chairman of edotco said: “With its strong business fundamentals and long-term potential, this acquisition marks a very significant expansion to edotco’s regional footprint and puts edotco firmly within the top 10 tower companies globally.”

With Dawood Hercules as our partner, we are confident in the potential of the market in Pakistan and will continue to demonstrate our long-term commitment to supporting the development and enhancement of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.”

It will also help create a more balanced portfolio for edotco in having three operations of significant size and nature which are Malaysia, Bangladesh and Pakistan. I am very pleased with edotco’s growth in performance and footprint to date. This further drives our determination and focus towards making edotco a world-class business through operational efficiencies and scale.”

Hussain Dawood, Chairman of Dawood Hercules Corporation said: “Our group has a history of, and passion for, bringing FDI to Pakistan through joint ventures. We work tirelessly in developing the capacity and capability of industries that are critical to addressing key societal challenges. We believe this strategic collaboration with edotco, adds significant value to our commitment.”

edotco Brings Telecommunications Industry Experts Together at International Infrastructure Summit in Cambodia
Phnom Penh, 28 August 2017

edotco Group (“edotco”), a regional leader in integrated telecommunications infrastructure services with operations in Southeast Asia and South Asia, brought together key experts in the telecommunications industry to discuss the development of Cambodia’s ICT Masterplan 2020 at its International Infrastructure Summit today.

Government officials, business leaders and experts in telecommunications and infrastructure gathered at this one-day summit to engage on issues and opportunities surrounding tower sharing, telecom regulations and licensing frameworks in Cambodia.

H.E. Tram Iv Tek, Cambodia’s Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, opened the summit with an address on the current up and coming telecommunications environment in Cambodia. In his address, he spoke about Cambodia’s ambitions to be digitally connected by 2020 and recognized the crucial role of public private partnerships in achieving ICT readiness.

“Summits like these bring together leading figures and key players in the industry creating the dialogue that is necessary to realize Cambodia’s ICT vision. The government hopes to have 100% broadband coverage in urban areas and 70% coverage in rural areas by 2020, and actively partnering with the specialist infrastructure companies is key to ensuring we are on track. edotco’s initiatives in bringing connectivity through telecom infrastructure and innovative solutions supports Cambodia’s vision to revolutionize the country’s ICT sector and I thank them for leading the charge on these vital discussions” he said.

Suresh Sidhu, CEO of edotco Group, said: “We are pleased to bring together experts in the field of telecommunications and infrastructure at this year’s summit in Cambodia. edotco is at the forefront of telecommunication infrastructure and investment in Asia and operates as a strong nation-building partner. We hope to support and enable Cambodia’s ICT vision for 2020 by providing this valuable platform for the engagement between key parties that is needed to increase the awareness on connectivity and telecom infrastructure development in the country, and also discuss the innovative solutions that are available in the industry now.”

Philip Wong, Country Managing Director of edotco Cambodia added “We are encouraged with how the Cambodian Government, through its regulatory frameworks and many e-Governance initiatives actively plans to transform the country to improve connectivity. Today we have seen how independent tower companies such as edotco and many other key players present here can serve as vital and reliable partners in driving this ambition.”

A key feature of the summit were panel discussions on the ICT Connectedness and Readiness for Cambodia and the investor’s view on infrastructure investments, which included Dr Kan Chanmeta, Secretary of State of Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Thomas Hundt, CEO of Smart Axiata, Patrick Tangney, Vice Chairman of Irrawaddy Towers, Carlos Katsuya, Chief Investment Officer and Head of Telecom, Media & Technology, Asia, Europe and MENA of IFC, Sachin Gupta, Managing Director of New Street Capital Asia and Suresh Sidhu, CEO of edotco Group as panellists.

With a steady 7.0% GDP growth, Cambodia is one of Asia’s fastest growing economies and is ripe for an ICT revolution. With 7.2m internet subscribers and nearly 20m telephone subscribers, the fixed broadband market currently presents huge opportunity for development as mobile broadband penetration is forecasted for continued strong growth.

In 2015, edotco’s tower count in Cambodia grew to 1,800 towers after it acquired tower assets from Smart Axiata. To date, edotco Cambodia has 25 employees and 3,500 tenancies, spread across major network operators such as Smart Axiata, Seatel, Xinwei, CamGSM and Emaxx.
