edotco Malaysia Inks 9-Year Agreement with Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia
The recent SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games were the first events to benefit from the advanced technology deployed by edotco Malaysia in KL Sports City
Kuala Lumpur, 13 December 2017 – edotco Malaysia signed an agreement with Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia (PSM) to provide telecommunications infrastructure with multi-tenant capabilities as well as fronthaul and backhaul fibre optic services in all its sports complexes.
The duration of the agreement is slated for nine (9) years and covers all stadiums and venues in KL Sports City, Bukit Kiara National Sports Complex, Jalan Duta National Sports Complex, Setiawangsa Sports Complex, Shah Alam National Sports Complex (Panasonic), Sarawak Excellence Aquatic Centre as well as other future complexes managed by PSM.
edotco Malaysia has already deployed multi-band antennas with 4G LTE capabilities to enlarge network capacity at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in KL Sports City in the run-up to Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017). The antennas allow mobile network operators (MNOs) to cater to the full capacity of the stadium. This is the first of such sites in Malaysia that optimises connectivity via unobtrusive multi-beam technology, and are among the first of its kind in the region.
Meanwhile, in-building cellular enhancement systems (IBC) comprising distributed antenna systems (DAS) ready with multiple input multiple output (MIMO) among others were installed inside the Axiata Arena, formerly known as Putra Stadium, to boost network signal strength. They are mounted on pillars and the ceiling to blend in with the aesthetics of the interior of the arena. edotco Malaysia Chief Country Officer Wan Zainal Adileen remarked, “We are pleased to be selected by Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia to be their infrastructure partner. Venues such as stadiums play host to regular congregations of large crowds, who in turn cause surges in network activity in a concentrated area. Infrastructure capacity plays an important role in ensuring good connectivity and service for customers during periods of sudden demand. The deployment of our latest solutions in KL Sports City gave visitors, local and foreign, a seamless connectivity experience. We look forward to implementing similar innovative solutions in all PSM’s venues to contribute to Malaysia’s bid to make these sports complexes which are designed to host international events, top sporting destinations in the world.”
Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Azman Fahmi bin Osman said, “We are glad to partner edotco Malaysia, an experienced and dedicated telecommunications infrastructure provider in the installation and management of these solutions that will greatly support our aspiration of providing the best experience for fans and athletes alike. The recently concluded KL2017 benefitted greatly from the infrastructure installed by edotco which enabled telco operators to increase their bandwidth without investing into infrastructure. The edotco solutions reduced the anticipated potential bottlenecks during spikes in demand and activity, giving supporters who thronged KL Sports City during KL2017 seamless coverage and good connectivity speed. It also powered the official KL2017 communication channels. We believe this telecommunications infrastructure partnership will better serve and modernise all our sporting venues to provide better experiences for the organisers, media, artists, athletes and fans.”
Currently, PSM has a portfolio of 14 stadiums and venues located in five major sports complexes in Peninsular Malaysia, capable of hosting sporting events ranging from indoors to outdoors as well as aquatic. PSM intends to make these venues part of local communities’ activities all year to optimise utilisation, whilst catering to the needs of the nation.
