edotco Introduces Innovative Solutions for Efficient Telco Infrastructure Management
KUALA LUMPUR, 19 November 2015
edotco Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Axiata aims to set the tone for independent tower sharing companies in Asia with its innovative solutions. The key products highlighted at the edotco Innovation Day 2015 were the echo remote monitoring and management system, special structures and energy solutions.
edotco is the first Pan-Asian towerco with a portfolio of over 15,000 towers in its countries of operation: Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Pakistan. Upon completion of the Myanmar Tower Company (MTC) deal, edotco will have approximately 16,200 towers across the region.
“We have identified and recognized the different telecommunication needs in each market and developed suitable and innovative solutions to address them. These solutions have the entire eco-system in mind – MNOs, Governments, regulators, end-users and communities,” said Suresh Sidhu, Chief Executive Officer of edotco Group, to media during the edotco Innovation Day 2015.
echo remote monitoring and management system is a next generation solution that automates and optimizes operational processes, performance and visibility 24×7. edotco has rolled out echo on over 5,000 sites within its markets. This system reduces manpower hours on the site and efficiently manages issues remotely from the echo centre. By minimizing dependency on manual operations and increasing operational efficiency, edotco is able to respond and address issues immediately as they arise. Through echo, edotco gains invaluable insights that add value to customer relationships. The regional towerco targets to implement echo in all its sites within the next 18 to 24 months.
edotco also introduced its innovative special structures which it is rolling out across more mature markets. The new “telecommunication towers” that the market can anticipate will be in the form of billboards, flagpoles, clock towers, minarets or water tanks where antennae can be mounted. These special structures will serve two or more purposes, are eco-friendly and will harmonize with the skyline in particular in urban areas.
At its core, this telecommunication infrastructure sharing company is actively promoting co-location (of antennae) on a single structure. This progressive direction will efficiently manage costs, resources and operations of infrastructure for network operators, while improving the skyline for communities.
This is an approach towards seamless coverage that requires the trust of network operators, and partnerships with local authorities and developers.
The infrastructure-sharing concept is gaining momentum across Asia, and edotco believes this augurs well for the company. Having a Pan-Asian footprint gives the company the opportunity to share best practices across the region with all its customers that give it the advantage in this fast developing region.
“For now, we are focused on consolidating our operating model and focusing on Pan-Asian synergies. Our customer base is also growing healthily as more operators now trust the independence of our operations. To keep ahead of the game, we will be proactive with new ideas and new solutions,” said Sidhu.
edotco is uniquely positioned to deliver tailor-made solutions to address the immediate challenges and imperatives of the various markets it operates in. Towards this end edotco endeavors to continue to be the leader in telecommunications infrastructure through an approach that combines operational excellence and innovation. The company is focused not just on enabling connectivity but also on enhancing communities in the region.
