edotco installs Myanmar’s First Chimney Camouflage Telecom Tower
Yangon, 5 June 2017
edotco Myanmar Limited (“edotco Myanmar”) today announced it is the first telecom tower company in the country to install an innovative tower that blends with the environment to meet its customers’ needs. The camouflage “chimney” telecom tower, built atop one of the buildings in Thanlyin’s Star City residential complex, will potentially service more than 10,000 homes and cover 1.7 million sq. meters of commercial space in the area.
Vijendran (Vijay) Watson, Country Managing Director of edotco Myanmar, said: “The camouflage telecom tower is another example of edotco working with our customers to come up with innovative solutions to meet their needs. We were limited and under strict guidelines on where and how towers could be placed. Star City’s management team initially suggested several temporary tower locations but edotco wanted to provide a permanent solution. Having agreed on a rooftop position, we proposed a camouflage tower solution to address our client’s concern over a metal structure that would ruin the aesthetics of surrounding buildings.”
Keeping pace with the pulse of innovation, which is in the DNA of edotco, the company is constantly experimenting with materials and offering innovative solutions to address the challenges of the telecom infrastructure industry.
The camouflage tower consists of a 6.0m Triangular Tubular Rooftop Tower 195 wind zone 12 SQM on the outside with square claddings that cover the structure with fiber-reinforced plastic panels.
The cladding and frame for edotco’s camouflage tower are made from special fiber glass material, contains no metal particles, and were fabricated in Malaysia; designed for the transmission of radio frequencies without interference.
Currently, MPT and Ooredoo are already positioned on the tower with other operators soon to follow. Whilst the residents of Star City are already noticing a remarkable difference in the coverage and speed of downloads. With the intention to expand its service in Star City with even more towers, the site has been marked as a huge development and edotco is delighted at having exclusive access as the preferred tower company.
Vijay added: “This tower site is very special as it is not only the most innovative telecom tower in the country, it is also the very first site we have built as edotco Myanmar, the first site we have been able to offer ‘tower & power,’ and the first site to integrate edotco’s remote monitoring system.”
The camouflage tower at Star City and another in Pun Hliang estate, designed as a tree to blend with the natural environment, follow on other edotco innovations in tower construction. The company pioneered the use of Asia’s first ground-based carbon fiber tower in Malaysia and recently introduced the use of bamboo as a renewable resource for a tower on a rooftop in Dhaka.
